Floating With the Fishies (Sidewalk Chalk on Asphalt) 65 ft diameter : January 18, 2020 (TOP IMAGE)
"Floating With The Fishies" was captured using my brother's drone the evening the work was finished, before rain, wind, or cars altered the drawing. The piece won the Regional Gold Key award in the Scholastic Art & Writing Competition in 2020. The piece is a giant sidewalk chalk mural created in Scottsdale, Arizona. “Floating With The Fishies” was a long-time dream of mine. It merged my childhood love for sidewalk chalk with my thirst to create on a larger scale. The subject matter of fish was chosen specifically to use the cul-de-sac shape to suggest a fishbowl. The fishbowl (as opposed to an open body of water) speaks to the tension of the literal asphalt circle in the natural desert landscape. The piece also highlights the irony of having fish in the middle of the desert.
This was the first of a series of sidewalk chalk works that I have done. The videos below document the process.
